NAVAL Energy

Naval Energy develops maritime technologies and offers its industrial know-how to meet the energy challenges of the 21st century.

DCNS has facilities on a number of sites in western France including the Loire estuary, where it designs, builds and maintains submarines and surface vessels and also offers a wide range of sea-based renewable energy solutions.

A world expert in naval shipbuilding and a lead contractor in the construction, integration and maintenance of marine systems, DCNS has now become an innovator in energy. The Group intends to play a major role on the emerging market of renewable marine energy.

With 350 years’ worth of expertise in shipbuilding and its familiarity with the marine environment, DCNS and all its employees now expect to be playing a key role in this booming industrial sector.

To realize this ambition, the Group is directing its investments towards three types of marine energy:

  • Floating offshore wind turbines,
  • Tidal energy,
  • Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).
